WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

PLACEMENT PROCESS

INTERNSHIP FACTS & FIGURES

How does CIEE Berlin match students with companies for the internship program?

CIEE Berlin receives and reviews the students’ resumés and holds a call with each student. Then, on a rolling basis, we send our partner companies a suitable candidate according to their needs, projects, or preferences. The company can then decide if they want to interview the respective student for an internship.

We ask that companies provide us with feedback on the candidate within approximately three days of receiving the resumé, and schedule the interview within one week, if possible.

If the interview goes well and both the intern and the host company agree on working together, we confirm the placement and will reach out with next steps.

If the resumé does not match the company or if the candidate is not a good fit, please inform us as soon as possible so we can continue our search.

When do the internships take place?

CIEE Berlin can provide new interns three times per year during the Spring, Summer, and Fall terms.

What are the durations of the internship programs offered by CIEE Berlin?

The internship programs offered by CIEE Berlin are typically six weeks (17-20 hours per week) in the Spring and Fall terms, and eight weeks (32 hours per week) in the Summer term.

Can I always count on having an intern through CIEE Berlin?

There are certain trends in students who choose to do an internship in Berlin but every cohort is made up of different students with a variety of majors, interests, and experiences. This means there may not be a student with a suitable profile available every time.

Our programs are growing and we’re determined to connect our partner companies with suitable candidates as often as we can!

INTERNSHIP FACTS & FIGURES

STUDENTS

What type of support does CIEE Berlin provide to the host companies?

CIEE Berlin provides support in selecting suitable candidates and minimizes paperwork for the hosting companies. The internship team remains in touch with the students and the companies for the duration of the internship to provide any support.

What are the costs associated with hosting a student for an internship through CIEE Berlin?

There are no costs associated with hosting interns through our program. Our matching services are free of charge and interns must be unpaid. Paperwork is kept to a minimum and students receive housing & health insurance through the program.

Are the internships paid or unpaid?

Internships that are facilitated through the CIEE internship programs are short-term and academic in nature. Therefore, all internships must be unpaid and students receive academic credit.

Do the students speak German?

Most students come with little-to-no German language skills.

However, some students may have basic German language proficiency. Those students may not be professionally fluent, but eager to improve their language skills.

Regardless of skill level, all students are interested in experiencing a foreign-speaking environment that will help them grow personally and professionally.

Can students be offered an employment contract after the internship?

Our students are typically still in university and therefore need to return home after the internship program to finish their degree.

However, students at the end of their degree may choose to stay in Berlin and seek employment. In other cases, they may choose to return to Germany after graduation, and may be hired by their host company.
